Guest stevebm1 Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 do the newer ford stereo's i'e 3000,4000,5000,6000, fit in the double din space of a 97 galaxy preface lift or do they leave a one inch gap? Quote
Guest fredt Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 IIRC wasnt it decided that they were din and half not double din? therefore the gap would be half a din, although you can get blanking plates to fill the gap why would you want to fit a 3000,4000,5000,6000 series unit? a single din after market unit would do the job just as good and still leave room for the Mrs to store tissues, her mobile phone, make up and a bag of sweets for the kids  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Take a tip from Ivor - if you want to upgrade, fit a Blaupunkt (especially the Woodstock DAB unit) and not another Ford-badged unit. Oh how I wish I could afford to get one for my Galaxy! You can get a neat infra-red controller that clips to the steering wheel too.Either that or go the whole hog and get a unit with in-dash DVD player, satnav, touch-sensitive screen etc etc...... Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 thanks for the advice,a friend offered me there 5000 model, that was all, just needed some advice thats all.where can you get the blanking plate? Quote
MrT Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 Also you need to check which model the Ford radio came out of. There are various versions of the same model, as an example my wifes Fiesta and my Galaxy have the same number radio, but on the Fiesta the front of the radio is curved to follow the dash contour whilst on the Galaxy it is flat. I have fitted a Woodstock 54 in my Alhambra. You don't need the column mount IR remote, you can buy a BP converter for the one already on there. Get a roof mount DAB ariel though. Bought mine from here: http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/woodstock_dab54.asp can not reccomend them highly enough, if you phone them they will make sure you get everything you need, and it is all genuine BP kit even the ISO converters. They know their stuff. As for the touch screen how about building a PC into the car... Here is one someone has done in an Audi, http://trevor.dynip.com/images/audicomputer.jpg Has all manner of software on there, including DVD, DIVX, MP3, TV tuner card, and yes, even VAG-COM built in!
