I have a 1997 Galaxy and want to programme a spare key I have had cut. How do I enter programming mode? I have the RED master key. Note this is not a remote key, I want to programme it to operate the engine not open the doors.

Thanks

Stick the RED key into the ignition switch and turn to position 2 the LED should illuminate, switch the ignition off and remove the key, the LED should go out and then back on again for two seconds, the system is now in the programming mode for the next ten seconds

stick the new keyi n the ignition switch and turn to position 2 The LED will flash once to indicate that the key has been accepted into the system, switch the ignition off and remove the key

To program more keys into the system repeat the above till they are all done, 16 keys can be programed into the system so you can lose a few and still have a few spares :D

Thanks, that confirms what I think I was doing having searched a few sites. The problem I have is that I put the RED key in, turn it to position 2, the red light comes on for a few seconds then goes off again, I turn the RED key to the off position and withdraw it, but the red light does not come on again and it does not enter programming mode.

I have tried turning the RED key off before the red light goes out but that does not work either. I have tried putting my uprogrammed key in and turning to position 2 even thought I have not had the red light showing 'programming mode' but unsurprisingly that does not work.

So I am a bit baffled and wondering whether there is some other sublety to the timing of inserting/withdrawing the RED key etc I am missing? Was there any other version of the PATS system around in Mar 97 when I bought the car?

Regards
