Guest technician Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 hi guys can anyone help, the reversing lights on my 2.0 glx gal 1996 will only stay on if the gear lever is held in place..... any information written or photographic would be very helpfull as id like to do this myself if possible rather than go to the dealer. many thanks. :) Quote
delboyt Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Its mounted on the gearbox, small rectangular block held in place by two spring clips, bit of a pain to get on a V6 but should be no trouble on your 2ltr with all the extra space you have in the engine bay! the switch is located on top of the gearbox on the hump in the box where the selector cables connect, get a new switch as it will give you an idea of what your looking forthe reason for the intermittant reversing lights are due to the switch being operated by a pin on the selector mech, the pin being pointed at the end wear's a groove in the plastic part of the switch and hence the loss of lights once the gear stick is released! you could undo the pin and space it out further by the use of a washer but it will only fail again do a search on the topic IIRC a photo of the switch was posted as was the part number Quote
Guest fredt Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I believe the word is PLAGIARISM  my legal team will be in touch shortly :) Quote
Guest kev140766 Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I have exactly the same problem on my 2.0. I cannot seem get to it. It does not seem easy. Still at least it's not needed for the MOT . Quote
Guest fredt Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Why cant you do it? I have to remove the coil pack and stick my arm through a gap in the pipes and and cables to get to mine! surely there cant be much stuff in the way on a 2 ltr? IIRC someone else posted this topic and IIRC they removed the battery tray to get access to the switch! earlier topic with switch photo's Quote
Guest technician Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 thanks guys, ill let you know how i get on. mike Quote
Guest technician Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 hi guys all sorted, those people with 2.0 galaxys will find it easier if they remove the secondary air injection switching valve this gives just enough room to do the job.about an hour or so. thanksmike Quote
Guest kev140766 Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 Tech, did you remove the coil packs? Quote
Guest technician Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 no just the switching valve. Quote
purct Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I have a MK1 Galaxy 2.0 Petrol and the reversing lights wouldn't stay on when engaging the reverse gear, so I had a look at the weekend! Basically the reverse light switch is a bit difficult to get to but I did it in the end. (I found the best way to get at it was to put the car in reverse and then disconnect the rubber pipe from the secondary intake pump?? mounted in the gap between the battery and engine (above the gearbox). then unplug the light switch electrics then using a long screwdriver to carefully unclip the switch from the gearbox. A a small groove had worn in the switch mech. so I found some clear plastic packing (you know that stuff that kids toys are packed in - u need sissors or a knife to get into) I cut a small square that fits over the top of the groove and then superglued it. Waited for glue to dry and then refitted the switch to the gear box. Job Done. With all the messing about it took about an 1hr. Quote
