iainkirk Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Well it happened, my spare wheel carrier has failed after being operated a whole 3 TIMES - once to take my steel spare off to replace with an alloy one, once to swap a baldy for the spare and once to get the spare replaced! All 3 times removed by me, with the wheel wrench and never with a tyre shop air "gun". Now I come to change a wheel and the bl**dy thing will only come down an inch before it starts clicking aimlessly. Any tips for removal, other than the wire cutters? Also, has anyone had any problems getting these replaced under warranty, as this is one of the biggest design faults I've ever seen and should surely have resulted in a recall IMHO ?? Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 it's a two person job,but try to get someone to push the spare back up under neath, whilst you undo the bolt.this releases pressure from the cable, and can free it sometimes.it's gotta be worth a try? :D Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 if you don't have 2 people avaliable you can prop the tyre back up with a jack/wood/bricks etc.........forgot to mention that! :D Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Steve's right, but in case the cable is binding when you lowered it a bit, did you then try to pull the wheel down with your hands a bit to see if that freed the cable off? Quote
JToh Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I wouldn't bother messing around with it. My packed in after I did exactly what you did and got it replaced under warranty without question asked. Apparently once the erractic spindle is jammed, that's the end of it!! Quote
iainkirk Posted October 4, 2004 Author Report Posted October 4, 2004 It's in for replacement on Thursday. "We've never had to charge anyone for one of these within warranty period" said the man at the Fraud dealer! Quote
