Hi,just though i'd post this here, not really a problem, but may be useful info.Ive just replaced the heater matrix without removing the total dash!.I had to take out both glove compartments/centre controls(radio etc).blower motor/pipework.It took 2 days,it's amazingly difficult to get the black box in and out>BUT IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!!!!!! :P .IF YOU HAVE PATIENCE!.

my replacement was a matrix still in it's black box from the scrapyard(

I agree- put some details up - since I may have to do the same thing.

Out of interest - do all Galaxies use the same heater matrix? and how do you test a used one to ensure ther are no leaks? Don't really want to go through 2 day of work to find out that you have another leaking matrix.

I suppose it would have helped if I had took photo's or everything as I was doing it,but sadly this was not on my mind at the time.Getting the old one out was harder than getting the new one in.as for testing if a secondhand one leaks well:

1,look at the element itself,as you can see if it has been leaking by the brown rust!

2,put water in it whilst its removed,(it's a good idea to flush it before you refit anyhow!)

3,check your scrapyard offers a gaurantee(mine does for 30 days on all used parts, they will exchange if found defective)

4,pray you didnt damage it putting it in:D

well I drained off from the lower radiator hose the main system, but because my leak was that bad, there was nothing left in the matrix itself.
