Barlidge Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Hi everyone, I am loooking for a new Gal and have found one with the headrest mounted screens and a video player. However I have a couple of questions: 1) How easy is it to convert to/add DVD player. 2) Is it possible to plug playstation into the system.3) Is there any potential problems I should be aware of. Many thanks for any replies. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Leave the video player in! You can get an in-car DVD player from eg Argos which just needs a power lead to be plugged into one of the 12V (cigarette lighter/accessory) sockets in the car, then audio/video leads to connect up.# (should be in the central rear/middle console behind handbrake?) Similarly you can connect PS2 etc but you may need a dedicated power supply or inverter (plugs into accessory socket but has 230V mains plug socket for PS2 to plug into - NB low current output, so no plugging in home heaters, hair dryers etc! Available from Maplins, Halfords etc). Quote
Barlidge Posted September 25, 2004 Author Report Posted September 25, 2004 Thanks Ivor, just what I wanted to hear. Quote
Marky Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 As Ivor said...leave the video in!!It is actually more useful than the dvd kit because it has more av inputsto allow you to connect more toys!!!Re the Playstation...if its a PS2 you'll need an inverter, search the web as prices vary enormously, I've seen the same model for 99 quid on one siteand 24.99 on another !!! If you are hooking up a PS1 you just need thein-car adapter which plugs into the power socket and straight into the PS,you can pick these up on the web or Comet etc. Enjoy your new toys but, as I found, you won't get the benefit ofthe multimedia system itself, just the peace and quiet it brings !!! Guest fredt Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 if its a PS2 you'll need an inverter.......................or just split the ps2 and convert it to 12v http://www.raysmith.co.uk/images/CMC%20Tech/PowerPlayPS2-Converter_l.jpg CMC Tech PowerPlayPS2-Converter - Quote
Barlidge Posted September 25, 2004 Author Report Posted September 25, 2004 Thanks Mark, its a PS2, so looks like an inverter required, oh looking forward to the peace and quiet (A LOT), but fear it'l be arguments of 'But I want to watch . . . Quote
Marky Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 The great thing is you can play the PS on one screen and watch a film on the other !!!! Or hook up two PS's...the screens areswitchable to any av input !!! Hey Fred....some of us aren't rich enough to have a dedicatedps2 in the car !!! Hows your 8 seater going ??? :D Mark Quote
Barlidge Posted September 25, 2004 Author Report Posted September 25, 2004 Hi Fredt, that looks like a nice option, have done a search and found it at http://www.raysmith.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=405 I think that site could get me into lots of trouble at home :D Quote
Guest fredt Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 Seats 6,7 and 8 are sitting on the shelf in the garage :D the problem with number 8 is that the frame is in black and all the other's are in grey! so I'm not sure if I'l use it knowing it doesnt match :D all I really have to do with it though is to remove the base trim off it and remove and rehand the seat belt brackets and its ready to go :D although at the moment the Galaxy is at the back of the list of things to do, at the front is getting this bloody pc to work and get my AV package to load :D as for the PS2 that stays indoors and is plugged into the pc :D that is when I get it working correctly :D Quote
Kev of Cov Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I have my PS2 under the front passenger seat and an inverter (maplins Quote
Taliska Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 I'd avoid the Halfords inverter, it hasn't got a fan, and it (well two of them actually) kept overheating and tripping out! Taliska Quote
Taliska Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Hi Fredt, that looks like a nice option, have done a search and found it at http://www.raysmith.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=405 I think that site could get me into lots of trouble at home :P BTW... If you do get a general purpose invertor, then you can use it for other purposes like charging the Camcorder in the car. The Maplins inverter is significantly cheaper than that beast, and it doesn't need a screwdriver! Taliska Quote

Good news (for me) - a new retail park is being developed just down the road from where I work and the first units are already opened - Maplins is on the signboard at the entrance to the park, so hopefully they will be opening soon.....
