MCPig Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Cruise control on my 2002 2.3 Ghia never worked from new. Took it to dealer and they diagnosed a faulty sensor on the clutch pedal which they said they fixed. :( They hadn't fixed it and it didn't work. :( However, knowing that it was a faulty clutch sensor I soon figured out that if I hooked my left foot under the clutch pedal and pull it up as far as it will go, it would close the sensor and I could engage cruise! If I don't do this then the car thinks the clutch is depressed (physically not mentally) and refuses to engage cruise control. But at least I know how to get it to work now. As for getting it fixed, I really can't be bothered! My advise to anyone experiencing intermittant cruise control engageability (sp?) is to try pulling your clutch and brake pedal up with your toe! Guest fredt Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 No sensor just a switch, you could try reseting it and if that fails replace it!to reset it push the clutch pedal down as far as possible, hold it there and then pull the plunger out out the switch as far it will go, release the pedal, it pushes the plunger back in and resets the switch the other option is that the vacuum switch on the pedal is not closing properly and allowing the vacuum to escape, with the loss of vacuum the servo releases and hence no cruise control :( Quote
Guest jn_rowe_uk Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Mum has just traded her Y plate Galaxy in and i hated driving the car with cruise control on The car couldnt stay at a constant speed without completely releashing the throttle and flooring it when accelerating I really dont like it, also the fuel consumption using cruise control is crazy, drove from London to Southampton and back using cruise control just to see how much petrol would be used in her 2.3 Ghia and it used nearly three quarters of a tank. Driving from London to Portsmouth and back not using cruise control and used just under half and was doing around 90odd all the way James Quote
