Electrical Problem !

just found this forum maybe you guys can help cause dealers cant. battery fine, wont start when you turn the key. will bump start, electrics go down, dim,and clicking noise heard,when wipers on radio goes off sometimes.

check your earth connection.

Easy way to see if earth problem get a jump lead connect to the engine a bright shiny part if poss and other end to battery earth if this cures it, that is the problem, and a hunting you must go to seek and find all the main earth points :rolleyes: :huh: :lol: engine to chassis chassis to body

Could be a dieing battery, happy when under a light load.

 

Could be the battery terminals are loose or the other end of the heavy leads from the battery have a poor connection.

 

Could be an earth strap, but if the one to the engine had gone the other electrics would not necessarily dim.

 

Do all the headlights (full beam) and heated rear window (front heated screen only works when engine is turning over) when turned on with the engine not running significantly cause any dimming?

Had same problem once (not on a gal) : lights dimmed and then brighter, wipers and ventilators changed speed, radio on and off all the time and eventually revs dropped and rose as the diesel pump was also affected. Had a few flat batteries during the same period.

 

In the end we found out that the earth lead of the alternator was broken inside the clamp (only 2 or 3 of the 20-30 copper wires were still connected) and the voltage from the alternator to the battery was fluctuating.
