Guest kookai Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Does anyone know how much/and how easy it is to fit new door locks on the ford Galaxy 1997 model. Both the door locks , passenger and drivers side have packed up, so now i can only lock and unlock from the tailgate.Do the locks need to be purchased from a main dealer or would i be able to get a locksmith to supply some?? i would be grateful for any assistance,as i need to get it sorted ASAP.Kookai. Guest fredt Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Easiest and cheapest option is to fit a remote locking kit and delock the front doors, to replace the two door locks would mean another key, unless you replace the whole lot including the ignition switch and glove box lock and then have all the new keys coded into the PAT's system, which will cost a bit! Guest neil_wiles Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Whilst Fredt is quite correct in the cost of replacing the whole set of locks, it may well be that the fault is not the lock but the spring and cast arm which is bolted to the back of each of the barrels of the locks. If this is the case the cost of the parts is minimal but they will need to be replaced and then the clips on the door panel will need to be replaced etc. I had to do this on my Gal at 150k miles and now have lovely smooth locks both sides although the tailgate lock is now a little stiff (used it for three months whilst I summoned the courage to have a go at the main door lock replacement). If you only have to replace the spring and arm then you use the same barrel and hence the same key and you wont need to reprogram the IMMU system.Have a look from the inside or indeed feel the key in the lock if its very stiff and appears to be able to rotate more than 60 degrees (2 hours of the clock face) then its likely to be the springs and arms. Guest stevebm1 Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 hi,fitting the door locks is easy, but the ignition is a garage job.In my case it was cheaper to get a full lock set from fords,it had 3 keys including the elusive red one,I fitted them all myself, except the ignition one, which I paid a garage to do,and they programmed all three keys for me for Quote
Guest Hacksaw Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Steve, My driver's side lock is getting progressively stiffer to the point where I have to use the passenger side door for unlocking the car. I own a standard 1996 model - no frills! I should be most grateful if you could advise how you obtained the new door mechanism kit. Cheers Ritchie Quote
