iainkirk Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 The Galaxy went in for her 40,000 mile service on Wednesday. When I arriced at the Ford garage, I reminded the service manager that they had overfilled my oil at the 30,000 service. He carefully noted on the job sheet "Do not overfill oil". As I was in a hurry when I returned in the afternoon to collect the car, I didn't check the oil. The Quote

Guest smurf Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Forgive me if im wrong but you did say a 40,000 mile service on a 53 plate TDI included a cambelt change? As I have just this week been informed by my local Ford garage SMC crayford that on the newer models it dosent need a belt change till 60,000 can anyone shed some light has Ian been ripped off or am I heading for some major shouting at being misinformed????? iainkirk Posted December 8, 2004 Author Report Posted December 8, 2004 smurf - the cambelt change interval was reduced from 60,000 miles to 40,000 miles early in the facelift range due to rather a lot of expensive failures under 60,000 miles IIRC. 40,000 miles is definitely the correct interval currently - see your owners' manual. Ian in Northampton Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Can I demonstrate my appalling ignorance (again) and ask: is the 40,000 mile cambelt change unique to the TDi, or does it apply to the petrol engine stuff as well? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 There have been some rumours on this site (and elsewhere) that petrol engines have chain-driven camshafts :P Quote
Andrew T Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 When we got ours I rang a Ford dealer and checked, and yes the 2.3 is a "lifetime" chain. I Hope its lifetime is longer than than the 100,000 miles suggested on another thread for the VR6! :P Quote
