Cant believe it. Kerbed my Gal yesterday and scrapped\gouged three of my spokes. Is there anything I can do to them using T-cut, emery cloth etc. without buggering them up even more or is a new wheel jobby.

"Chips away" told me that the Ghia wheels ae machined alloys and so need to be re-machined to remove any marks

New wheel may be cheaper.

I've been looking into this for some time having kerbed two of my alloys ages ago. Try searching the web using alloy wheeel repairs uk or alloy wheel refurbishment uk as a search term. It does bring up a small number of promising results. I'm tempted by these people

who seem confident they can fix anything (I spoke to them on the phone). If the damage is really bad they can apparently do welding as well as machining to restore the original shape. Don't know how much it will cost - they need to see the wheel to quote - but it has to be cheaper than buying new alloys at

Err, my problem (well, one of them) is that the spare has been trashed to hell by the first owner - used to be on the front nearside. Not managed to find a single Ghia alloy on e-bay when I've had the money and been looking. Fingers crossed for next year!

Dont know where you guys live but a fitter from chips away gave me a number for a place in gillingham kent that specialises in Mk2 ghia refurbs coz they are the machined shiny type its the place that chipsaway use so i guess you could save money by cutting out the middle man? anyway they are called LEPSONS and the number is 01634580582 i havent tried em yet coz i still let the wife have a drive now and then???????????

personally I wouldnt touch a company that says they could weld an alloy to repair it. Little bit to dangerous IMO. would rather pay full price for a new rim ( Which I have BTW

So it sounds like the bottom line is :-

You can't fix them yourself rubbing them down etc.

Get a company to maybe machine them

Or its new wheels from Ebay

I'm just so suprised that I can't do anything myself. I was going to try just rubbing the gouges down to take the sharp edges off and then maybe treating them with something ( laquer, silver paint?) to stop it rusting.

Thoughts anyone?????

I cannot see why if it is only superficial damage that you cannot rub it down and touch it up. The galaxy's wheels are not polished metal alloys, they have some sort of silver metallic paint with a clear laquer overcoat.

Depending on the damage it could just be a bit of touch up silver paint then a laquer coat or even just a bit of clear laquer. If it is silver paint, it would just finding the closest matching car body colour from any car manufacturer. I would be interested to know which is the best match.

Any chunks out the metal would require specialist work.

The galaxy wheels are very expensive when compared to top market after market wheels.
