Guest lesmon Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 HI, Ok following from the water problems that drowned my C/C unit under the passenger seat, that caused my alarm to no longer function, courtesy lights to fail and no function from the remote C/C (although Central and global locking worked with the key in the door). see NO remote CL and alarm So I have bought a new unit (vagcomponents), arrived yesterday.Disconnected the battery, unplugged old unit, fitted new unit, reconnected battery. Led light now flashes, alarm works, courtesy lights works, C/L & G/L works by using key in door, etc. However, the Remote C/L did not work, and expected this as the key would have not been programed into the new unit, right?UNfortunately, I can't seem to program the key!!! which is mighty fustrating!!! I followed the instructions on this forum and in the manual (same thing really) by turning the key in the drivers door 3 times withing 5 second (0.5 sec rest at the unlock position) but the led light does not 'come on' so I could go to the programming stage. Is there something else I should be doing? I have followed the instructions to the letter, the battery in the remote is new and strong, and the remote control worked before the incident previously described.Do I need to go to the Dealers? or can someone who has done this before help me out? rgdsLes Quote
Guest edwards57 Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Hi Les, Yes you will need to go to the dealer to get it programmed, I booked mine in after i got my central locking unit and they coded it in no problem. The dealer told me it was about security....why only that function can be coded in by them! but then dealers never make much sense to me... :D :D so i dont know how true that is. But it works no problem now! :D Quote
Guest lesmon Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Hi Edwards57, Any ideas how long they take to do this or how much they charge? Is it better to go to Ford or VW? Quote
Guest dmc Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 programming does not need to be done by dealer.the only reason to go to the dealer is if there is a fault with another component. keep experimenting with the time you hold the key. you should hold in the unlock position for 0.5sec,then return to straight up.do this 3 times within a total of 5 secs. Guest lesmon Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 I've done this at least 30 times now with no effect. I have read the notes over & over but to no avail. From the notes I assume the following (which is not in the literature or on this site): 1: Starting status is that all doors are shut but unlock2: Put key in lock and follow the procedure (i.e. 3 times to unlock position hesitating 0.5 of a second before returning it to the rest position)3: remove key from lock as soon as procedure is complete. I expect at this point for the led to be lit - but it stays unlit. In step 2 above - my lock returns but not fully back to the rest position (seems like a weak spring) so I do this manually. I am willing for someone else to give it a try before going to the stealers.. Quote
