timwood2000 Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 I have the headrests with screens in and because of the angle needed for the screens to be seen properly by the rear passengers, the headrests do not provide any support for me. Does anyone know of some kind of add-on that can be attached so that the depth of the headrest is effectivly doubled. allowing me to rest my head on the headrest? Thanks Quote
Richmond Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 As I understand it, headrests are not for you to rest your head on (despite their name), they are to stop your head from jerking back too far in the event of an end on (presumably rear end) collision, aka whiplash. The important thing is that they are not too low, otherwise thay provide an edge about which your neck can bend, ensuring thart the effects of whiplash are maximised. I can't think why you shouldn't have a headrest on which you can rest your head, apart I suppose from the risk that you might drift off to sleep on the M4, but I've never come across one on which you could. Guest fredt Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 The technical term for the item under discussion is 'HEAD RESTRAINTS' a few year back Mr Schumaker (you know him of F1 fame :D )had to do a series of road safety adverts as punishment for a minor driving incedent! one of these ads was for the correct positioning of the 'HEAD RESTRAINTS' in order to help stop injuries to the seats occupants in the case of an accident! I think with head restraint mounted monitors its a case of what do you want? major wiplash! or peace and quite while driving? I went for the best of both worlds :D roof mounted screen :D Quote
Dally Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 or you can have your own head restraints with monitors constructed that are padded out to give just that little extra depth as I have done. BTW Remember those old range rovers that used to have a two piece headrests - they had the normal headrest an an extra padding piece that clipped on to give considerably more depth. Timwood2000, maybe this could point to a possible solution. Quote
