Nick Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 I noticed that a small tube had come away from the back of the air filter box (some sort of sensor feed?). Upon inspection I could see that the plastic spigot had snapped off and was still in the tube. I removed the air box to glue the spigot back on the box. The repair went well but now I've lost power when driving big time Other posts here throw up MAF as a possible culprit? My question, do I need to 'reset' the car after the MAF was removed with the air box? I can't figure out what I could have done to cause such a big problem Any input welcomed. Quote
Nick Posted May 5, 2003 Author Report Posted May 5, 2003 Took out the MAF for inspection - looks like the thing is toast, the tungston wire element is MISSING! New one comes in on Wednesday... Quote
Guest Porker Posted May 5, 2003 Report Posted May 5, 2003 Not sure if this is much help but.... The small pipe from the Air cleaner is a vacuum pipe for the turbo. There is no sensor on the air cleaner side. According to the Haynes manual (very poor BTW) the settings have to be relearnt if the ECM wiring is disconnected which it states should not be done until at least 30secs after the ignition is switched off. As far as the MAS goes there is no mention of anything like this, it is a simple replacement. Judging by the posts on this board, loss of power on diesels seems fairly common. I have a problem at the momemt where it goes fine for maybe 15miles and then all of a sudden looses power. Turn off and restart and its OK again. When I aquired the vehicle it was permanently low power. The garage changed the MAS twice in two weeks !! They also found a split in a turbo hose and replaced a needle lift sensor (no idea what that is). Do you ever get full power or has it gone altogether. A main dealer diagnosis may be the easiest route. BTW how much was your MAS ? Dealers seem to charge around Quote
Nick Posted May 5, 2003 Author Report Posted May 5, 2003 Before I 'fixed' the vac hose!! I've never had a power problem. This fault is like a switch, no power at all i.e. it takes forever to get up to 30mph! As I understand, without a MAF signal to the ECU, the ECU goes into a 'limp' mode - Limp is an understatement! The loacl Ford stealer, I mean dealer, has a MAF on order for Wednesday at Quote
Nick Posted May 7, 2003 Author Report Posted May 7, 2003 Dealer fitted new MAF - Vroom! Total cost of repair, including new air filter for good measure, Quote
