jaritex Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Hi, My -98 Galaxy's roof painting (white) has small bubbles (dia. ~2-3 mm) all over the roof. I usually park it under a big pine tree and obviously some liquid falling from the tree has caused this (at least according to the dealer). I've never seen this before with my previous cars. Anybody experienced this? Sure this is my last Ford (or should I say VW?). Art Quote
GaryM Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I think what you are seeing is the resin out of the tree. Is it sticky? It should clean off. If you absoulutly have to park under the tree then a would clean the car regualy and apply a good coat of polish each time to help protect the paint from permanent damage. The other issue when parking under trees is bird droppings and these are really nasty to paintwork. Do you have any pics? Quote
julesanth Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Generally what people consider as resin from trees, is in fact droppings from insects etc; so far more corrosive to the paint. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 It's not just the Galaxy paint that is the "problem" - it's all modern water-soluble paint which is just not as tough as the good old-fashioned cellulose based stuff. I always carry a tub of baby-wipes in the car to clean off bird cr@p etc as soon as I see it. Try cleaning the car with a good car shampoo, followed by a rinse with plenty of water then use a good polish, especially on the roof as it is so high that it probably does not get washed very often. I clean the car almost every week, from the tops of the doors downwards. The roof has only got done about 3 times in the last year. Quote
Marky Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 IIRC it was M*rc*d*s that were the first use use water based paint and bathedin the glory of being the first manufacturer to use this eco-friendly paintsystem.....kept it a bit quieter when they went back to solvent based paintsbecause of this exact same reason...water based paints are too soft andsusceptable to staining from bird c**p, tree resin, flies etc Quote
