Hi,

Apart from a general feeling that I'm going to 'regret' this, we've decided to fit the Ford factory fit SatNav option to our new Galaxy.

It's a 2003 Galaxy Ghia with the standard multichanger in the back and I've sourced a MFD-DX unit, but what other bits and pieces do I need?

Will I need the wiring loom thingy that gets advertised on Ebay Germany? If so, is there more than one type (my German isn't very good :-( ).

What about replacement fascias in the Galaxy itself - or will it just fit? Where do you put the GPS antenna normally?

If I really splash out and get the TMC Tuner (along with the TMC enabled TeleAtlas map CD) will it work correctly in the UK?

I've searched the forums and can't find a conclusive answer, so looking for any help/advice available.

Thanks!

I would try and search a bit more on here as there are loads of topics regardign the sat nav unit, including thw wiring and antenna, almost step by step instructions if I recall

I've not done this myself but have the facrtory fit sat nav and changer. The following may help.

The cd changer used with the sat nav unit is an audi/VW unit, the changer used by the ford head units has differnt fittings and is made by visteon if I am not mistaken.

You will have to replace the facia because there are some slight differences in size but someone has done this before and should be on the site somewhere.

The factory fit sat nav gps antenna fits on the roof an the back.

I am sure that you will need changes to wiring or will need to aquire different fittings.

I'd personally go for a PocketPC based system and forget trying to fit an OEM system.

We've made the decision that we will go with the OEM installation as the wife prefers the look.

Just need to work out the bits required, guess I'll just have to wait until I've got the bits together and can work it out.

Well, good luck! You will need new dashboard console surround and maybe new switch blanking plates too, possibly a speed sensor interface and GPS aerial. This topic has definitely beed covered at least a couple of times before. You may well find it cheaper to fit an after-market in-dash CD player with sat nav system requiring just the new console surround (possibly switch blanks) and the blank to close off the rest of the radio-CD "hole" in the console.

...or if you want, go for a smartnav system, just one button to be fitted, voice instructions for guidance but a fairly hefty annual charge of around

I'm looking to buy a tomtom go for my wifes car. Yesterday the kids were at my mums and we thought we'd take my wifes fiesta to Leamington spa (and save some fuel - 1.25 vs 2.8v6 = many
