Joshua Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Has any one had the cruise control accelerating by itself? It did it to me yesterday - increased speed by 20mph and still accelerating before I switched it off.Cheers,Josh Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Did you hit the resume button? if so wouldnt the cruise try to attain the last speed setting? if that was say 60mph and your only doing 30mph then the cruise system would accelerate the car till 60mph was reached or it was swicthed off Quote
Joshua Posted August 23, 2004 Author Report Posted August 23, 2004 No, sequence was:1. Switched off2. Switched on3. Pressed "set button" - end of stalk controller4. Foot off pedals I repeated it several times, couple of times hovering my foot over the accel pedal. I did feel it depress down a good cm or so on its own accord (level road), and we started to accel noticably. Also, does it only disengage by pressing the clutch? Brake pedal just slowed the car against the engine. Josh Quote
Andrew T Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 The Cruise control on our 2.3 has shown all of these symptoms, and also rockets away to way beyond the previously set speed. Furthermore it seems very slow (30 Seconds) to switch off, either by braking or on the column switch. I have only used it once, on an early morning motorway drive, and thought the problem was my lack of familiriaty with it, having opnly briefly read the instructions when we got the car.Is this a problem confined to 2.3s ? iainkirk Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 As cruise control normally works on vacuum (does it on Galaxies??), I would assume this must be a problem in reducing vacuum (suck as a stuck valve?), if it takes ages to turn off. Quote
Andrew T Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 I forgot to add that you should never try to dissengage the cruise without using the clutch, as there is a warning in the handbook advising that this could result in overspeeding the engine and consequent damage. It does seem odd that the clutch pedal is not fitted with cut-off switch, "Ford gives you less" once again ? Quote

It does seem odd that the clutch pedal is not fitted with cut-off switch, "Ford gives you less" once again ? On mine, the CC disengages when I change gear, I assume in response to disengaging the clutch. Overrevving is not a problem, although I suppose it could be, depending on revs at the set speed, but the revs drop very quickly when the clutch is disengaged. Quote
Guest Nik Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 I don't get the problem I think. But this happens with mine ('04 Galaxy 1.9tdi 115bhp): Driving at a certain speed, press set, and foot off the pedal.Pressing the clutch, braking, pressing the cancel-switch on the steering wheel OR using the HORN, will cause the cruise control stop functioning immediately.RES-button on the steering wheel will cause the car accelerate at previous set speed. Pressing the clutch will NOT cause the engine revving up. The maual is only warning that when you pull the gear lever in neutral position whithout preesing the clutch pedal, the engine will rev up till he can't anymore. Thus, changing gear without clutch is NOT good (isn't the way you should do it anyway :( ) and will NOT cause the cruise control stop working. When speed is set (e.g. 60mph), and you accelerate with the pedal (e.g. till 70mph), after releasing the pedal, the car slows down till previously set speed (60 mph). Quote
