I have a 52 plate 15000 miles TDI Galaxy and some times the gearbox is a dog in first and 2 nd crunch even with the clutch down it is just not smooth like a car box but more like a truck. :)

After the first 20 miles it then seems to get better is any one having the same problem it is under the ford warrenty still i was going to book it in to be checked or will they just fit a new one ?.

My 2001 TDI has not the best gearchange in the world, but "they are all like that". Sounds like yours is worse than usual though. Have you tried speaking to the dealer and comparing it with the change on any demonstrator or used TDI's that they may have?

I have a 96 Galaxy and Second Gear crunches both up and down from time to time. Cold weather seems to make it worse. Sometimes when I depress the clutch (fully) it seems that the gear lever pushes against an obstacle of some sort, other times it just clicks in smoothly! Either way, as you make the change you are never really confident that it is fully engaged. Fords say that because it's intermittent they will just charge their full

Hi JW

My clutch is the same with the biting point seemingly only about an inch off the floor. Rough at first and gets smoother when warmed, but only takes about 3 miles.

I had a V reg 1.9 TDI Passat before the Galaxy and the box was similar.

Car has done 87000 and I think is still on the original clutch, so I am I looking at a clutch change soon?

TIA

Depends...last 2 cars I have traded in have been on the original clutch at around 130,000 miles and 115,000 miles
