Guest CJH Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Can I say this forum is brilliant !! I came across it yesterday and browsed the numerous posts re. poor performance/rough running etc and many of them pointed at the MAF. I got home from work and tried as suggested here, unplugging it. What a difference, it seems like a different car. My problem now is I am going to France on Sunday and was wondering if there would be a problem leaving it unplugged for the trip. Will it have any implications/long term effects. I plan to replace it on my return but know I have no chance obtaining one before I go. Any advice would be appreciated. Chris Quote
charles Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 If disconnected the engine runs a 'safe'mode program. It brings you home, but not meant to drive very long under max load. Quote
Guest JohnP Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 If it's any consolation, I discovered this information late. I ran for 15,000 miles without the MAF plugged in - when the fault was fixed, the car runs great. I think you'll be ok for the trip but beware - she's very underpowered in this failsafe mode. If you can get it fixed, I would...John Quote
Guest CJH Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Just a quick update, returned home yesterday 1200 miles on and the galaxy didn't miss a beat. 80-90 mph cruising fully loaded all the way !! I tried reconnecting the MAF whilst in France and it ran like a dog, barely getting over 70mph. I will get a replacement asap now that I am home, as for being underpowered in this mode, I found it the complete opposite, crisp instant throttle response and plenty (well for the 2.0L at least) in reserve even at 90mph.
