Can I say this forum is brilliant !! I came across it yesterday and browsed the numerous posts re. poor performance/rough running etc and many of them pointed at the MAF. I got home from work and tried as suggested here, unplugging it. What a difference, it seems like a different car.

My problem now is I am going to France on Sunday and was wondering if there would be a problem leaving it unplugged for the trip. Will it have any implications/long term effects. I plan to replace it on my return but know I have no chance obtaining one before I go.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it's any consolation, I discovered this information late. I ran for 15,000 miles without the MAF plugged in - when the fault was fixed, the car runs great. I think you'll be ok for the trip but beware - she's very underpowered in this failsafe mode. If you can get it fixed, I would...

Just a quick update, returned home yesterday 1200 miles on and the galaxy didn't miss a beat. 80-90 mph cruising fully loaded all the way !!

I tried reconnecting the MAF whilst in France and it ran like a dog, barely getting over 70mph.

I will get a replacement asap now that I am home, as for being underpowered in this mode, I found it the complete opposite, crisp instant throttle response and plenty (well for the 2.0L at least) in reserve even at 90mph.
