Guest lucya Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Hi, Anyone know if you can buy a simple box (to put all the crap the floats around the back of my car in) that can be mounted like a seat like the fridge? Obviously a broken fridge comes to mind but seems like overkill. Andy Quote
Andrew T Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I use an Ikea Crate (99p) secured with a bungy cord that I found lying on the floor at the tip. Efficient and economical ! Quote
Guest chunkyandlouie Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I'm not sure if AndyT is talking about thesame thing but I use some of those folding crates whicxh have the added benefit of being stackable - secured with bungy rope of course. If you wanted to go the whole hog you could carefully drill some holes in the bottom of the crate to line up with the seat anchor points. Quote
Guest chunkyandlouie Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Whoops - I meant AndrewT. Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 to put all the crap the floats around the back of my car in What crap, floating around? whats wrong with stashing it in the storage pockets provide? there's the great big one where the jack sits, another one on the passenger side rear quarter panel and not to mention the two fairly large storage bins under the front seats  what exactly are you carrying around that cant be left at home or is to big to fit in the storage bins provided? Guest lucya Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Last time I used a bungy I nearly took my ear off, I'm leaving them for the experts!! As for the bins, they're all full! I've got extra crap. Actually I've got no idea why most of the stuff is there just seems to collect. I think I'll buy one of those boxes and set about it with my 'Blue Peter' kit and see if I can't make some fixings for the anchor points (maybe I can sell them on here and make my fortune) Andy Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Or maybe you could have a clear out  you never know it could do your MPG a bit of good! loosing all that extra weight  Quote
Richmond Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Fredt obviously took advantage of his recent holiday from this forum to move to another planet. Back on earth, Fredt, we still have cars which fill up with crap a matter of seconds after being emptied of it. A box, floor mounted or not, is no use. It will instantly fill up with crap and then more crap will start to lie about all over the car like it does now, and you'll have a box full of crap in the way. Quote
italiastar Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 What storage bins under the seats - have I missed something? Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Fredt, we still have cars which fill up with crap a matter of seconds after being emptied of it. Mine doesnt! nor does my works van, or my Golf GTI, which has nothing in it apart from a couple of spare cd's, a tow rope, an extendable lug nut wrench and a pair of gloves, I cant stand having uneeded crap floating around and rattleing all over the place! what do you all you guy's find so important that you need to drag it around with you every where you go? our Galaxy is mainly driven by the wife for work or to ferry the kids around in and even they take their rubbish with them when they get out  Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 What storage bins under the seats - have I missed something? Oh the joys of having a MK1  you get proper lidded storage cubbies under the front seats, not the velcro'd off cut's of carpet as on the later models! Quote
Richmond Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 they take their rubbish with them when they get out Maximum respect, Fredt. I take my hat off to you. Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Just got my latest purchase through off of Ebay, its another brouchure for the Galaxy :D in the accessories page it has a stowage box! it clips in the seat mounting holes and has a foam block like you get in camera cases that you can cut out and shape to your needs :D it also appears that the same box was able to be converted to a cool box by dropping in the insulated liner and changing the lid to one with the cooling pack in it! Maximum respect, Fredt. I take my hat off to you. It took me a while to get them trained! but the shock collars are a great incentive :D Quote
iainkirk Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Fredt, how many Galaxy brochures have you bought??? Are you sure you're not a train spotter? :D Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Fredt, how many Galaxy brochures have you bought??? Are you sure you're not a train spotter? :D So far I have only bought four items, I go for stuff relating to the MK1, one of them being the pre-release press publicity pack, this consists of a folder full of specifications sheets, options, introduction to the Galaxy, cd rom of photo's and cut away diagrams, several photographic slides of the same, a few photo's and a floppy disc of ? not sure yet as my floppy drives gone U/S :D I also have the 95 and 97 edition2 sales brochures, I just picked up the travel first class brochure from 94 I also have the TIS book for the MK2 capri! this contains the lay out drawings for the body panels, the floor pan, main chassis members and all the measurements for making replacement panels from scratch :D I have a few other books and brochures including some that were going to be destroyed :D and were deemed to be of risky c my latest buy..........http://i13.ebayimg.com/02/i/01/f6/f6/45_1_b.JPG and as for your train spotter comment :D be prepared for a high bidding war! :D that cargo nets on my list as well :o Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 right you wanted storage boxes so I found you one specially for the Galaxy ;) made by a company in Sweden, so I'm not to sure on the fixings but there should be enough room in there for all your 'crap' that you have floating a round ;) http://www.norsk-stanseindustri.no/_images/vw/vw-sharan6.jpg http://www.norsk-stanseindustri.no/_images/vw/vw-sharan4.jpg http://www.norsk-stanseindustri.no/_images/vw/vw-sharan5.jpg http://www.norsk-stanseindustri.no/_images/vw/vw-sharan8.jpg ok so you loose a seat or two but think of how more unneeded crap you could carry around :D Quote
MrT Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 The galaxy cool box is nothing more than a box. It is the lid that makes it a fridge. However the cool-box alone will set you back around Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 You used to be able to get a lockable security box that fitted under the front seats, IIRC it was part of the stowage package that included the center console and the floor mounted storage box its a shame a lot of these parts are no longer available ;) I'm sure they would sell in greater quantities now that we know they were available! Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 just a though? maybe we could start a topic to see what oddities we all have as factory options! IIRC there is a member with the under seat security box fitted, and one with the second battery under the drivers seat! also there is a V6 with the aux heater fitted! if we club together and donate the parts we could build a super Galaxy! ;) what parts we couldnt find I'm sure Ivor could construct for us ;) Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 ok is what you want? it clips to the floor in the seat mountings and is removable! Quote
Guest lucya Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Thanks fredt, I think I'll be ordering the system from Sweden! :( Quote
