Guest kev140766 Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 I have the dreaded water in the passenger footwell. Whilst removing the inner wheel arch covers etc, I see that inside the drivers side wheel arch there is a black box bolted to the wheel arch with a plactic pipe leading to the front grill area. Can any one tell me what it is for as I can find no rererence in the haynes book. Also , the water appear to be coming from under the glove box area, any ideas? Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 18, 2004 Report Posted August 18, 2004 water in passenger footwell..............do a search on scuttle drains check in the storage cubby hole under the passenger seat for water! if its there! you could have trouble as on certain madels the ecu for central locking is under the seat and does not like getting wet! the black box in the drivers wheel arch is the carbon canister, it collects the fumes from the fuel system and stores them, when the engine is running a valve is opened and the fumes/petrol is sucked into the engine and burnt Quote
Guest kev140766 Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Re the blck box, i never would have guessed that in a million years thanks. I have cleared the drains in the inner wings and there was a bit of debris, but i and not convinced enough to cause the problem. My wife insists the water appeared when she applied the brakes, pouring down from under the glove box. Re the ECU under the seat, does the scuttle problem cause this or is water getting in elsewhere? Guest fredt Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Any water ingress from any point can cause a problem if it gets to the ECU the ECU is in the lowest point of the cabin and water always travels to the lowest point where it collects! the reason the water pours downs from under the glove box is due to the air intake for the heater system that is located on that side, if the drains are blocked the water builds ups and is sucked through into the cabin via the pollen filter  it passes through the heater unit and out of the lowest point usually the passenger footwell vent, hence the flooed footwell :D if this isnt the point of entry for your water? do a search on the topic of water entry, its been covered a few times  Quote
