:lol: Any one with security studs for alloys should try and see if you can loosen them.While trying to take off front wheel ,security stud sheared off and damaged adaptor nut .This took a week to replace(had to come from Germany)plus damaged stud had to be drilled out ,leaving disc u.s.Has this happened to you?.My local garage owner said same had happened to his Focus.Try yours now,rather than a dark winters night stuck in the middle of nowhere.CHECK YOUR NUTS!.

I totally agree anything to promote men's health issues, apparently this should be done in private, in warm relaxing surroundings, not in public, say on a roadside! after all look where that sort of behaviour got George Michel :lol:

I have seen this before on the old type of bolt which was manufactured in two parts and these parts held together by a spline. The spline pulls apart when pressure is applied at an angle to it.

 

The newer security bolts are a single piece casting and unless the whole casting is broken by excessive force, do not suffer from this problem.

I had the same problem on all four wheels when I went to get a new set of tyres.

We took 3 off with normal socket hammered on, but the forth had to be chiseled off.

Hence I replace them with normal studs.

Ok I lost the security of having my Alloys pinched. But the thiefs have all the equipment they need to getting the security nuts off.. (so why do we bother putting them on)

And I have got peace of mind that if I get a punture on a dark winters night I know I can the wheel off.

The VW lock nuts are sh*te.

 

Try changing a wheel anywhere other than at a tyre depot/garage, using the wheel wrench supplied with the Galaxy.

 

The angle of the wrench handle makes it almost impossible, as all that happens is the lock nut gets damaged and the wheel bolt stays where it is.

 

A design defect and hence you should insist that lock nuts and security bolts are replaced under warranty whenever they get damaged.

Hmmm, personally I think that all standard wheelbraces supplied by manufacturers fall into this category, hence I carry a wheelnut spider in the car, now supplemented by one of thse extending arm things to enable you to get greater leverage when undoing the nuts. I bought the long arm thingy from Tesco IIRC for about

Yes it happened on my previous galaxy. All 4 had to be drilled out and replaced withe the newer type. Done under warranty.

 

With my current galaxy, this was one of the first things I checked!!

Same thing happened to one of my security wheel nuts when I had a flat tyre.

Ford said they only sell the "pastry cutter" design, so like RussT I had all 4 replaced with normal nuts. Agree about the wheel nut wrench, its useless. Before going on holiday I tried to slacken off all the nuts which had been over tightened by the last garage to fit new tyres and couldn't budge any of them with the Ford wrench.
