Guest lucya Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Hi, I've just bought a T99 2.3 Auto and have 2 questions. 1) One of the keyfobs has lock and unlock buttons that do not appear to do anything. I replaced the batteries but nothing. The dealer (non Ford) I bought it from said it probably need 'recoding' and only ford can do this. Is this true? Is there anyway of recoding it myself? 2) We starting (warm or cold) it makes a rasping noise, sounds a little like a Diesel. It's only as it starts and it runs fine. The dealer said they'd spoken to Ford and it was likely to be a dry starter and that it isn't a fault. Does this sound right? BTW Paid Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Price sounds OK - was it private or from a garage/dealer? There is a way of coding the keys yourself, try a search on this forum; I take it that you have another remote key that works - some earlier cars did not have remote locking so although a previous owner may have bought an additional/replacement remote key, it need not necessaily work. Guest lucya Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Hi thanks for the reply. I bought the car from a small dealer. I don't have any remote controller that works (I only have 1 key with the buttons). I'll have a search here but I suspect it either doesn't have the remote option and the key is a red-herring. Any ideas on the startup noise? Andy Quote
cr3sp0 Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Re: point 2, my 2001 2.3 Manual Galaxy does the same thing. Hopefully just a quirk of the car. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Sounds are always difficult to diagnose over the internet! Could be nothing to worry about, but you never know. Does it have a genuine oil filter, or a factored part that may not have an anti-drain valve meaning that when cold, some engine bits don't have a coating of oil, resulting in an odd noise? Quote
Guest lucya Posted August 17, 2004 Report Posted August 17, 2004 Hi, Yep looks like a factored part. I'm taking it in for a service soon so I'll get them to change it for a Ford part, hopefully that will clear it. Thanks for the help Quote
