Joshua Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Hi,Due to pick up my first Galaxy tomorrow (2.3 Ghia, 2000/X plate, new shape), and am wondering about adding a remote control stalk for the radio. Saw an earlier post on the topic (believe I need a "DE1 stalk control module -95gp18a810ab" - going to call the dealer later in the week). Has anyone actually added one themselves? Also, how do you remove a 5000 unit from the dash? Cheers,Josh Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Remove from dash using the "standard" U-shaped tools available from car audio shops, Halford etc for about Quote
Dally Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 It's easier if after inserting the U shaped tools, you pull them apart (outwards of the stereo) to release the locking mechanism before pulling the unit out of the dashboard. And if you get the stalk to work, let me know as I would like to fit one on my standard ford (VW) sat nav radio unit. Quote
Joshua Posted August 11, 2004 Author Report Posted August 11, 2004 Cheers. I've ordered a set of the removal tools ( Quote
iainkirk Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 A headrest will appear on Ebay if you wait for a few weeks I'm sure! Aren't the audio controls part of the Multifunction steering wheel - ie that's the only way you can get them??? UPDATE...... Just been Ebaysurfing...is this it???? Radio Stalk ??? Quote
Joshua Posted August 14, 2004 Author Report Posted August 14, 2004 Cheers, I'll keep a lookout on ebay. Think that one is for an older model. I have a feeling that the r/c unit is independant from the steering wheel, but is dependant on the head unit itself. My Galaxy has the standard 5000 unit, and my wife's Focus also has the 5000 unit and also a r/c stalk unit (I'll post a pic of it on pic Sunday).I could nick the one from her car, but I don't think she will be too happy. Would like to see if the connector on my wifes unit matches the one on the back of my headunit, if so might speak to the stealer and see how much a Focus one costs. Josh Quote
iainkirk Posted August 15, 2004 Report Posted August 15, 2004 My Galaxy has the multifunction steering wheel and all of the audio controls are on the steering wheel itself - ie they go round with it. Maybe there is a version available for vehicles without the multifunction wheel? Ford 5000 head units come in a variety of guises. You will notice if you compare your wife's Focus and your Galaxy that the front of the stereo in the Focus is curved in profile and the one in the Galaxy is flat. If you go to the trouble of extracting them from the dashboards, you will notice that the bodies of the units are different sizes as well, so I suspect that the units are not actually the same stereo at all - they just look like it! Hence the connector may not be the same...(and is probably a VW one??) Perhaps Alarm Man will wander in and offer some info... Quote
Joshua Posted August 15, 2004 Author Report Posted August 15, 2004 Yes, know what you mean about the front design. Anyway, pulled the unit from the Galaxy this morning, and there was no spare socket on the back. Does this mean that no r/c is possible, or is it built into the wiring harness already - anyone know? I think that I am going to lose on this one. Josh Quote
