Has anyone got any personnal experience/advice on the following-

Does the aircon (climate on ghia models) keep the back passengers cool enough in hot weather. Is it essential that you have the dual aircon. Or is there not much in it. The reason im asking is because im looking to buy a one/two year old galaxy soon and i believe the petrol 2.8 is the only model that has the dual air con as standard.

We will be doing a lot of driving with our young kids during the summer in southern europe. This will help us to choose the right galaxy.

Also does the mpg drop dramatically with air con activated, especially with the thirstier petrol2.8.

Personal experience:

Drove 600 miles over two hot-ish days, Thursday 17th April and the Good Friday, the 18th.

Wife and two daughters (5 and 7 yo), BLACK vehicle, diesel 130, some holdups around Heathrow.

No problem with single Aircon set to Auto 20 degrees. No sweat or tears!

I agree with SA intruder

having had several Galaxy's with the single air con with ATC, I actually prefer it to dual air con! especially if you can get a car with a sunroof, as the car has a much lighter and airer feel inside and on not so hot days its nice to get a breeze in through the roof rather than use the air-con.

As all my Galaxy's have been Diesel, even on full power I have only ever noticed a marginal fuel economy difference.

for good spec used Galaxy's from ford direct try motors coalville. http://www.motorscoalville.co.uk/galaxy.asp

Heres my imput from someone with the dual air-con having had the single air con i find the dual gives the cabin a lot more air flow which is greatly appreciated on those hot summer days when the car turns into a green house.

You should also try to opt for a vehicle with the privacy glass this really keeps the sun out and elliminates the need for blinds.

The individual controls for the rear passengers is very handy with three small children you can prioritise who wants the cold air as and when.

I have a V6 with the dual air con. So far, I've had no need to set the rear to a different temp to the front, and I can't see why I'd want to. Presumably there are two independent cooling circuits, which doubles the chance of something failing. If I'd had the choice, I'd have gone for single air con.

The aircon seems to work well, but I haven't experienced particularly hot weather yet (I may never!).
