Guest vwmad Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 hi,ive just bought a 1995 mondeo v6 ghia which has the traction control.whilst driving it home the car would not let me go faster than 70mph (overtaking purposes only of course)every time it got to 70mph the traction control light would come on and the throttle pedal would push up.i also noticed that the traction control light comes on and it will not let me accelerate until the light goes out which seems to be below 65mph(annoying for the car i just overtook, i bet)has anybody any ideas what could be causing this problem?cheers Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 7, 2004 Report Posted August 7, 2004 the traction works in two ways below 30mph it applies the brakes and closes the throttle, above 30mph it just closes the throttle, it works by taking readings from the abs sensors and by either braking the wheel that is spinning or closing the throttle it allows the wheels to regain traction if yours is closing the throttle down while in a straight line on dry roads then its not working correctly! when you switch on the ignition you should get a warning light that stays on for few seconds? if this light stays on then there is a fault registered have you tried switching the system off and driving the car? when you switch it of the TCS indicator stays on till you switch it back on or switch off the ignition where it automatically resets back to on Quote
johnb80 Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 I had this once on a Cosworth Granada, it had odd sized tyres fitted ! The TC system looks at the speed of all of the wheels, if they differ by more than a pre-set margin then TC comes into operation because it thinks a wheel is spinning. The other possibility is the sensors / sensor ring on the front wheels. If theyre dirty or not set correctly or faulty the system won't be picking up all of the pulses from that particular wheel. Guest vwmad Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004  thanks very much for the help i will go out and check all the possibilities you have both suggested.warning light may bre a problem though as the trip computer screen has faded and i cant see anything.cheers.ps. apart from the problem its a nice car Quote
