I've got to carry out my first service to our Sharan VR6. As its the 80,000 service it looks like I'll be replacing the spark plugs. VW seem to use a special 'puller' to remove the leads/plug caps from the plugs. Does anyone know where I can get this and the likely cost as I don't want to wreck my leads. Any alternative methods would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know what length of extension I'll need on my socket as I'm sure I don't have one long enough!

These new-fangled VWs aren't like the old ones I'm used to working on!

Thanks

Richard

Thanks for the information Fred. I've searched and the tool is missing on our Sharan.

I thought I'd try to keep the cost down and see how much VWs own tool cost, after all its only recommended that you replace the plugs every 40,000 miles and owning a Snap On tool for this might be a bit extravagant.

The answer from my local VW dealer was that they weren't able to sell the tool to a member of the public. I then rang a local Ford dealer who said that I should speak to VW!

I'm going to try a SEAT dealer next!

Try one of the independant parts places like German and Swedish

German and Swedish don't sell them but VW have now decided they do!

However, my retired engineer dad is keen to help and said he'd make me one instead.

Can some one help and let me have some dimensions (such as inside diameter, outside diameter and distance of slots from end and their length) and I'll set him to work. I've found a photo on line to show him as well!

Thanks for the help everyone.

Richard
