jkspoff Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Help.....I have lost the locking wheel nut that releases the locking nuts, any idea where I can get a replacement, or will I need to replace all the nuts ?? If so, how do I get them off to replace them..... Quote
jkspoff Posted August 5, 2004 Author Report Posted August 5, 2004 Checked with Ford dealership and they inform me that the locking nuts will all have to be replaced.......surely a replacment key can be obtained from somewhere?? Quote
Guest fredt Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Do a search on the topic,I'm sure it's been covered a few times! my method is to hammer a socket over the locking nut and undo it that way!although you can now buy the proper bit of kit to remove them, its a set of sockets that cut into the locking nut and gripping them as you try to undo them  will try and dig out the link for the site that sells them nut removal tool! Guest OXO2 PUB Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 What ever you do get it sooner rather than later I thought I'd wait till I had the money to order a new key from Germany (Mcguard Locknuts) and yep you guessed it I got a flat  Quote
suzuki91 Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 may be worth trying a locksmith to pick the locks?should'nt be too hard. Quote
jkspoff Posted August 11, 2004 Author Report Posted August 11, 2004  Now been to Ford and got them to try their master keys, they released all the old locking nuts and replaced them with new ones plus a new nut key.....garage who supplied the car paid for this as there was no key provided with car.......result...... :) Quote
Guest vitrocmax Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Wow! What a result! :( Did they ask you to keep it quiet so we didn't all rush round asking for help? I'm glad you've got it sorted, I was going to suggest keeping one of the 'universal' sockets (the ones full of hexagon pins that fits many nut sizes) in the car until you had it sorted. I found one next to my car after someone tried to get the wheels off, it doesn't work with the new Ford design with the 'wiggly line' coding, but my neighbour had his Vectra wheels taken, and that had the pitched holes in the nut, the socket allows just the right pins to fit and is as good as the coded socket.
