Bonnet Release Won't Open The Bonnet - 2005 Galaxy

Hi.

 

Suddenly, on my 2005 1.9 tdi Ghia Galaxy, when I pull the bonnet release catch in the driver's footwell, it doesn't pop the bonnet that first bit, to then allow the pushing in of the "Lever" in the front grill.

I've managed to get it open eventually and have looked long and hard at the lock mechanism but just can't see what's not working correctly.

I've removed the lock assembly so I don't get in this fix again but can anyone please tell me what to look for of how to fix this issue?

is the cable still in 1 complete piece?if so then it may require unsiezing?you need to get a load of penetrating oil down inside.
