Muskoka Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 Hi folks. I have an 02 Galaxy 2.3 petrol. Love it but it has developed a hiss under the footwell and it turns out its the servo. Problem is I can't get hold of a seal kit. It seems that the servo was changed by Ford after this model. Does anybody know for sure if the later servos will fit an 02 Galaxy? Just that buying an old second hand one means I could be back to square one in no time. Any advice much appreciated. Quote
BrianH Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 It would be wise to check it isn't a split pipe first - there is a hard plastic pipe that goes between the manifold and servo, this can (and does) split at the ends due to the design of it. There might also be a feed to the heater controls (my mk1 had this, think its only present on the models with the manual dials rather than the button controls), check that hasn't come loose before condemning the servo. The servo on my mk1 did start to hiss (noticable as it stopped when you put your foot onto the brake slightly) and was the actual seal. I never got round to fixing it as couldn't find a matching servo based on the part number at the time and ended up scrapping it due to engine issues anyway. Quote
Muskoka Posted June 4, 2019 Author Report Posted June 4, 2019 Mine has exactly the same symptoms you described Brian, but a difficult close inspection revealed the seal round the pushrods from the pedal has popped out of its housing. The daft thing is the brakes are fine as it's just been tested but the servo leaks. A mechanic has said it could get no worse for ages but then again may fail completely. For safety I'd like to sort it. There's plenty of second hand servos on flea bay but recent ones are from later models and/or diesels. I wondered if anybody else had changed one. Quote
BrianH Posted June 5, 2019 Report Posted June 5, 2019 You might get an answer on the other forum - this one is rather deserted now (not helped by the software having a few issues causing posts to appear not to post or be updated). most of the posters still active have moved over there now - https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ Quote
