Last week started getting message "Transmission function limited". today it seemed to not change gear.By using the manual setting worked out that only gears 1,3, and 5 are working. Im guessing this is significant. :-( Bad news I'm guessing? Quote
gregers Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 mmm dont sound good,but over the years the advice ive seen is always try replacing the gearbox oil a couple of times to see if it solves it??? before going down a strip down or replacement. Quote

Yeh had the fluid changed probably a year ago. Worse case - how much we looking for rebuild or replacement? One place has said to me £3500. :-( Quote

"The engineers is under to opinion that the car has an control unit fault and that is causing the problem as other data is normal. They are putting on a different test rig from the factory as we don’t have this equipment and can let you know by lunch time of the outcome." Quote
paulfoel Posted March 18, 2019 Author Report Posted March 18, 2019 Garage have decided they can't do it because they think its the control module now. Have had no choice but to take to dealer now. (My mate is service manager so I wont get ripped off and at least get a discount).Other than it'd be running around trying to find someone whos got the equipment to configure the module. Although, dealer has said filter and fluid change is in order first off which may solve problem (£320 though!) Quote

New gearbox needed - best prices I can get for recon one is just over £2K.Also, seems to be a problem with fuel vapour valve (another few £100).MOT in 6 weeks and I know it needs a new wheel hub too (I've got that) and pretty sure rear brakes. Of course the worry then is the module is faulty also. Either way, it seems I can get close to £1000 scrap value so its not economically viable I dont think. (130k miles worth about £3500-£4000 I reckon). Quote
