Eric saxby Posted February 22, 2018 Report Posted February 22, 2018 Hi l am new to these forums but I would like some help with my galaxy 2.3 petrol. I have just had to fit a new auxiliary belt but when I fitted it the belt has a flat side and a v side but when fitted the water pump has a v pully the flat side of the new belt runs over the pully is this correct, the old belt came off when the tensioner pully failed so I had nothing to follow fitting the new one. I welcome any helpThank you Eric Quote
BrianH Posted February 22, 2018 Report Posted February 22, 2018 I suspect you have either a mk1 or mk2 not a mk3 by the engine listed. Belt routing is easily got wrong on them, it should be like the one shown in this post http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/13234-aux-belt-diagram/ If the pulley is smooth then the flat side of the belt should touch it, ribbed would be facing the ribbed side as you'd expect. But it is possible to get it to go on in such a way that it fits, but won't work correctly (obvious as you find what you have found already). Its a tight fit when it does go on though - only a few mm to spare, A decent 15mm spanner on the tensioner pulley helps. Quote

The correct routing is as per the Haynes book, like this Quote
