mrben Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 I'm starting to think now that the vibration is not the wishbone, and something to do with the o/s driveshaft assembly. What is the bit called that actually goes into the gearbox, and how do you get it out? Does this part have a bearing? As the vibration does feel like a bearing worn, but wheel bearing doesn't have any play. (i have a 2 hour drive later, and i don't know if it will make it it, as getting progressively worse!) Thanks all, and happy Christmas. Quote
BrianH Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 Its called the intermediate driveshaft i think. There is a bearing bolted to the chassis by two studs, held on with nuts. It just pulls out of the gearbox once you have the other driveshaft out of it (might need a sharp tug to get it out as the spring clip will hold it a bit) You will release the oil from the gearbox if you remove it If this link works its the bit labelled 13http://catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=bWFya2V0PT1ldXJvfHxjYXRfaWQ9PTIyMjV8fGNhYmJyPT1WWXx8dGhrPT0wfHxzdD09NjB8fHN0cz09eyIyMCI6IkV1cm9wZSIsIjMwIjoiR2FsYXh5IFZZIDIwMDAtMjAwNiIsIjQwIjoiQiBGcm9udCBBeGxlIExlc3MgQnJha2VzIiwiNTAiOiJCMDEgRnJvbnQgQXhsZSBMZXNzIEJyYWtlcy5TdXNwZW5zaW9uICZhbXA7IERyaXZlIFNoYWZ0cyAtIEZyb250IiwiNjAiOiJCMDEwMTUgRHJpdmUgU2hhZnQgLSBGcm9udCBXaGVlbCBEcml2ZSJ9fHxhbHBoYT09Qnx8Z3JvdXA9PUIwMXx8c2VjdD09QjAxMDE1fHxzZXQ9PVZZQjAxfHxpbWc9PUcwMDIxMDUwMTF8fGYxMj09NDIxMDU0NCsw Quote
BrianH Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 This might explain better - you may want to put your vehicle details into their website though http://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/ford-galaxy-1.9-diesel-2002/product/drive-shafts-509/drive-shaft/DS514 Quote
daddyfixit Posted December 30, 2017 Report Posted December 30, 2017 stub shaft; comes in 2 parts, if you buy from J & R they supply all new bolts washer, the brass conical bearing as well. Ford prices was in the £100's, seem to think it was less than £100 when I put mine on a couple of years ago. I also replaced the driveshaft seal at same time...about £10 from Ford. clever fella at j&r was called Lee who I spoke to Quote
mrben Posted December 30, 2017 Author Report Posted December 30, 2017 Thanks chaps. I'm surprised I didn't see the the 2 bolts holding this bearing, when I removed the 6 splined driveshaft bolts, it looks like its just behind them. Those drive shaft prices on the link seem very cheap?! Thanks for info, have a happy new year! Quote
