Guest BDM2510 Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Can anyone offer any advice on a Ford 5000 installation. I have a VW Sharan and replacing the Blaupunkt Gamma with Ford 5000 (I also have an extra Ford 6000 (faulty) if of help). The purpose is to complete the final loop from the Visteon DVD (Ford factory fit unit) which installs in the radio stalk connector at the rear of the Ford head unit. After checking several adapters I went to Halfords where they converted the Blaupunkt adapter and coupled to the Ford adapter. A couple of strange things; 1) Ford 5000 : Stereo works and performs OK. But press button off illumination flashes constantly and one of the speakers has a buzz. When you take out the key the radio switches off. 2) By plugging in the Visteon extension lead I still receive no power to the DVD player. 3) How can I test the DVD player works or at least switched on/off. I have a diagram from Dally which shows the Postive Negative and earth on the Visteon unit. Do you think the adapter from Halfords is wrong as I`m struggling to complete this installation with all cables & wiring & Ford Galaxy forum assistance? Quote
Dally Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 BDM2510 Sorry to hear you are still having problems with this. It would be useful to hear from someone who has the standard factory fit to share any info as to how this final connection is made to the head unit. In the mean time, you could connect a live supply from your battery (or cigarette lighter) to both the permanent live and switched ignition live and connect the ground pin to the negative terminal on your battery (or cigarette lighter) just to test the unit. Personally, I am not convinced that all the power to the multimedia setup comes from this final connection to the head unit - remember you need power for two 7" monitors, the av switching box, the dvd player and of course the cigarette power socket that is built into the headphone panel. Added together, I think this is just a bit too much to be drawn from the head unit. Have you thought about just bringing in a new power supply and forget about the head unit connection? Best of luckps thanks for the pictures you emailed me. Quote
