DrummerLS7 Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 Hi everyone Just joined the forum and this is my first post. Purchased a 2.3 petrol auto Ghia mk 2 with LPG conversion from a friend 14 months ago and I have to say the car has been superb...until recently. It's done 168k and had recon box fitted at about 120k so I am hoping my problems are not with the gearbox itself. Doesn't seem to be kicking in to 1st and 2nd gears without major revving, and I have to use handbrake on hills to avoid rolling back. also when accelerating in low gears hear a grinding noise. When up to speed runs fine . Had vag com on and came up with fault codes p0420 p0700 and p0171. which seems to point to gear sensors rotor senses. Anyone else had same issues, any help would be greatly appreciated. One other thing I think worth mentioning, the car developed a coolant leak a few weeks ago so there may have been quite a bit of spillage when topping up.. A post that related to a similar issue prompted a response asking if the car had been under water, so this may be relevant. Cheers all. . Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 29, 2017 Report Posted September 29, 2017 Yes, it is a known problem with water ingress and corrosion into the gearbox connectors and wiring loom. Access to some of the loom is not easy, but is possible, and checking the condition of all the connectors and the loom you can find around the gearbox would be a worthwhile start. When you have a bit of time, do a search on here for "gearbox wiring" or "gearbox loom", you might find some further info. The search box is at the top right of the forum header, make sure "Forum" is selected in the drop-down at the end of the search box. I understand that the car has had a recon 'box, but these Jatco gearboxes can be very problematic. Quote
