Veryvocal1 Posted September 26, 2017 Report Posted September 26, 2017 Hi there I have a 03 plate galaxy diesel with around 160000 on the clock. When on holiday started to get movement from side to side on the steering wheel even at very low speeds. The steering wheel moves slowly about an inch side to side at low speed then with more speed moves faster but less travel.Any ideas and advice would be appreciated as its getting to the point to consider repair or getting rid of.Thanks in advance Quote
BrianH Posted September 26, 2017 Report Posted September 26, 2017 I'd have a look for any damage to the front wheels as a starting point, if nothing visible there then it may be worn bushes on the suspension, or a tracking issue. It might be worth running it into somewhere that does wheel alignment checks to get a look at it. Can also be worth lifting the front wheels off the ground and having a check for any unexpected movement - track rod ends might cause this if theres play, as the track rods themselves. Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 27, 2017 Report Posted September 27, 2017 If it's rotational, i.e. in sync with the rotation of the road wheels, then its probably something driveshaft or wheel related. They are classic loose or buckled wheel symptoms. Any recent kerbing incidents that could have led to a buckled wheel or damaged hub? Has this come on suddenly, or gradual deterioration? Any clicking, knocking or groaning/squeaking noises? Have you checked that all wheel bolts are tight? Quote
