jkspoff Posted July 30, 2004 Report Posted July 30, 2004 Just purchased a 'TomTom Go' Sat Nav system, its an all in one unit that fits via a windscreen arm. Switch it on wait 30 seconds for satelites to attach and then your off. Talks you through to your chosen destination which is inputed by a touch screen keyboard using either towns / street names / postcodes or even house numbers !! It gives you a very ultra clear 3D map. Follow this link for a full demo. This item retails at Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Does it take its power from a cigar lighter - ie can you just unplug it and fit it into another car? Can the road map info be upgraded, eg by a lead to a PC? Quote
buford_t_justice Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 TomTom Go is a great idea but for the same money (and quite often less) you could use the TomTom software on a PocketPC (such as an Ipaq) and have a separate GPS receiver. I use an Ipaq 2210 connected to a bluetooth GPS (which is located behind a trim panel in the boot). When your finished with the SatNav feature you then have a fully functional Windows PocketPC. Bonus!! Quote
iainkirk Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 TomTom Go is only TomTom Navigator 3 in a "bastardised" PocketPC-type device anyway. I've got two PocketPC-based SatNav systems. I would currently recommend the Mitac Mio 168, which is a PocketPC with a built-in GPS receiver. It is supplied with all the car-kit bits you would need and I recently got one for Quote
jkspoff Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 This system runs off a rechargeable battery that lasts upto 6 hours. It can be charged from the cigarette lighter if required. It plugs into your PC via USB to upgrade the maps, also it can be used as a portable device undercutting anything else on the market e.g. Carmin devices by over Quote
jkspoff Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 Read this review if you are interested in getting one, its un-biased and very good. http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/tomtom-go.php Quote
jkspoff Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 Another pic of the unit...........not as versatile as a PDA, but very easy to use. Quote
