martin sheppard Posted July 1, 2017 Report Posted July 1, 2017 good evening all, my air con doesn't hold its gas for more than a week , even though its been pressure test at 150 psi. I had the dye put in and there's a big green glow in the region of the low pressure pipe snap connector within the chassis rail. I removed the pipe (the bit which goes from the snap connector down to the compressor) capped off both ends, filled with 60psi air and shoved it in the bath! - no bubbles! Could it just be the three purple seals within the snap connector? Any input good people Martin Quote
BrianH Posted July 1, 2017 Report Posted July 1, 2017 It might be - The only way to tell is to change them and try regassing it again. Its recommended to use some of the compressor oil (PAG oil) to lubricate the seals as the pipe goes in. I'd suggest if its one of the connectors with a spring snap ring to secure it together that you replace the spring as well at the same time as they don't always hold as well once its been apart. martin sheppard Posted July 1, 2017 Author Report Posted July 1, 2017 thanks - i'm really torn with which way to go at the moment, the dye was actually under the rubber sleeve on the bend aswell as the snap fitting, the pipe is still holding pressure (no baths in our house tonight!) will air not leak when gas will? - i'm leaning towards changing the pipe. Just to add a curve ball - I/we have two galaxy's, we're off on hols next month and the wife wants the aircon working - fair enough - I start to repair galaxy 130 (cruise control!). 20mins ago she declares that we will need to drag the trailer with us - guess what - the 130 doesn't have the towing bracket! - oh joy. I'm thinking holiday without wife or trailer! Quote

Yes refrigerant has smaller molecules than air so it can leak when air will hold. The seals would be fairly cheap compared to replacing the pipe - unless you can get hold of a new one they tend to be very expensive. Quote
martin sheppard Posted July 6, 2017 Author Report Posted July 6, 2017 The low pressure pipe has know been tig welded where i believe the leak is. When it was being welded you could see crap bubbling up nice clean repair know.See how it goesi'll upload pictures if somebody can tell me how? Quote
