Barbara155 Posted June 26, 2017 Report Posted June 26, 2017 Hi all Over the past 5 months I've had a problem with my car siren going off. Sometimes it's when the car has been locked up for some time ( i.e the middle of the night ) other times it happens when I lock or unlock the car. The siren sounds for about 10 minutes then stops. It's very erratic going off several times in a day then been fine for a week then going off every couple of days then fine for several weeks etc. I took it to the local main dealer & they said it's an electrical fault & the 'body control unit' needs replacing at a cost of £800. Obviously I want to pay less than that, can anyone tell me if I could source this part myself from somewhere other that the main dealer & approach a local garage to fit it or should I stay with the main dealer & get them to do the job? I have a 2011 Galaxy Titanium TDCI. Thank you Quote

The bonnet switch may be the cause - i've had it on other fords, and would be a lot cheaper to rule out first. Might be worth a post in the mk3 area to see if anyone else has ideas. Earlier fords (not sure if yours is the same) had a self test function - usually triggered by pushing one (any one) of the alarm switches a few times within 10 seconds (think it might have been 10 pushes within 10 seconds), this should allow you to test each sensor in turn. Alternatively disconnecting the bonnet switch should stop the alarm at least in the short term while you try and fix it (though you won't be able to arm the alarm either, should still be able to lock the car though) Quote
gregers Posted June 26, 2017 Report Posted June 26, 2017 welcome to the forum,i have moved it into the correct section.iirc the alarm module is under the passenger wheel arch?it might pay to disconnect the battery over night MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANY CODES NEEDED.iirc the module contains a battery(so im led to believe)so this needs to discharge.reconnect battery and see what happens. the mk3/smax,are still fairly new vechiles so info is still on the thin ground,do a google search on alarm module.
