the_alsta Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 Hi all. Just got a 2012 Galaxy with the 2.2TDCI 200BHP engine (automatic) with 70,000miles on the clock. The economy is horrendous, well under 30MPG with extremely gentle driving and no hard acceleration. We live on the edge of town so I guess we're not giving it cruising speed on the highways but also it's not stop start driving. For a modern diesel engine I'd expect much more - like the 55mpg we got on our VW Caddy. Does anyone with a similar motor get comparable figures? Is it possible to de-tune it as we have no need for all that horsepower? I know that 2.2 TDCI had a varient with better mpg and lower BHP though it's not coupled to the auto box I think. Any other suggestions? Otherwise it's a decent enough motor. Loath to get rid so soon as we just had it serviced but also cannot afford an extra 80-90 quid a month for diesel. Quote
sparky Paul Posted June 25, 2017 Report Posted June 25, 2017 Sub 30mpg doesn't sound very good, even for an auto. Not really sure what to expect from these, you might get a better response in the mk.3 section, yours is a mk.3 car. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/forum/174-mkiii-specific-area/ The diesel engines in the mk.1/2 are VW, yours is a Ford, so you can't really compare with the earlier cars. In fact the whole car is Ford designed and built now, the old mk.1/2 was effectively a Volkswagen Sharan. Quote
