B3nyf Posted April 22, 2017 Report Posted April 22, 2017 Hi. Anyone have any experience of the above fault code. I have a engine management light on and was leaking oil so took to a garage and had a vct hub actuator solenoid replace as this what was leaking oil. Code reset but light keeps coming on they said need a complete new vct hub which is ££££ so I've been told. My concern is they are just guessing it's this as I've googled the code and see it could be many things is there anything I can try 1st or any other possibilities other than this unit?? Tia Ben Quote
BrianH Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 https://www.obd-codes.com/p0017 suggests that its a camshaft/crackshaft timing error - in other words that the two sensors aren't indicating the two items are in time with each other. Could be a faulty sensor, but would expect that to generate other errors really. It would be an idea to have a look at the timing first - has it had any work done to replace the timing belt (cambelt) or similar recently? Or is it due for that on the service schedule? Which year and engine is it as well (guessing a Diesel of some form by the parts you reference?) Quote
B3nyf Posted April 23, 2017 Author Report Posted April 23, 2017 Thanks for the reply. I've got my own little obd reader and today another code as you say has appeared p0039 turbo bypass valve control circuit range / performance. This has never come up before not had any other work apart from the sensor as was pouring out oil. I've looked on the etis site as doesn't specify in my maintenance book when and it suggests 10years or 125k. Sounds a lot so it's never been done and it's on 60k and a 61 plate/2011. Also it's a 1.6 petrol ecoboost titanium x. Thanks. Quote
BrianH Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Given the VCT hub controls the variable timing, and you appear to have an issue with the timing highlighted by the light and the garage has said you need to replace it, suggests it could be the cause of the issue. It might be worth sourcing a second opinion though from another garage particularly if the cost is high Does P0039 come back once its cleared? Quote
B3nyf Posted April 26, 2017 Author Report Posted April 26, 2017 I cleared and the p0039. Not returned but the normal error has. I got it booked in to a garage to find out what they think. Thanks for your help. Update soon Quote
B3nyf Posted April 26, 2017 Author Report Posted April 26, 2017 Also would this be called something else as I've searched for for Galaxy petrol vct hub and nothing comes up. I'm trying to source myself although I doubt it's just a simple swap for me. Quote
BrianH Posted April 27, 2017 Report Posted April 27, 2017 If you know where the bit thats replaced is you might be able to find it on here > http://catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=bWFya2V0PT1ldXJvfHxjYXRfaWQ9PTExMDAxfHxjYWJicj09R0NBMXx8dGhrPT0zfHxzdD09NjB8fHN0cz09eyIyMCI6IkV1cm9wZSIsIjMwIjoiUy1NQVhcL0dhbGF4eSBDQTEgMjAwNi0iLCI0MCI6IjUgQm9keSBBbmQgUGFpbnQiLCI1MCI6IjUwMTEwIEJvZHkgQW5kIFBhaW50LlNlYXRzIEFuZCBSZWxhdGVkIFBhcnRzIiwiNjAiOiI1MDExMDE1IEZyb250IFNlYXQgQmFzZSJ9fHxhbHBoYT09NXx8Z3JvdXA9PTUwMTEwfHxzZWN0PT01MDA4QUxZfHxzZXQ9PUExNTAxMTB8fGltZz09RzAxNDk2MzYxM3x8ZjEyPT0tOTM5NDQ0NDgwKzEzNw%3D%3D If that works then I'd suspect you can identify the vct hub from there at least to a part number, which should give you a starting point.
