my lad bought a 53 plate Galaxy 1.9tdi, auto with 120k on clock, it run fine for about a month then started cutting out usually at slow speed or when pulling away, it failed to restart so was towed home , 1 hr later he tried to start and it fired up 1st turn of key and run fine for a fortnight then only to start cutting out again, it then cut out every day for a few days but after 15 mins or so would then restart,

i have had it for the last 4 days travelling over 100 miles and it run brilliant , lad then drove it back home and within an hour it cut out at a set of lights .

any idea's please

p.s. no lights on dash , but the orange coil did start flashing once when it cut out

I'd be starting by scanning with VCDS if you have a lead, if you don't have one they can be picked up off ebay cheaply enough to make it worthwhile (cheaper than running it into a garage for diagnosics and you have the lead again if you have further problems).

The flashing coil light suggests something is being detected, it usually flashes for a faulty brake light switch though doubt thats the cause here.

it sounds like the fault i had on my mk1, relay 30? needs replacing.

The other possibility that comes to mind given the flashing coil light is water in the fuel filter?
