Caff Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 I know that this subject has been raised before but I have only read about using stick on devices. My Galaxy Owners' guide says "The headlight direction can be changed to suit driving on the left or right hand of the road. Please consult your Ford dealer."Does any one have any knowledge of this? Can a DIYer do this? I have read that the Scorpio can be altered by moving a lever behind the lights. This seems to be too good to be true. :( other than that it's a trip to Halfords for stick ons!Any thoughts would be appreciated Quote
Marky Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Hi....looking at the TIS the dealer will just 'mask' the headlamp beam...no physical adjustment to the headlamp itself... Mark Quote
Caff Posted July 28, 2004 Author Report Posted July 28, 2004 That's disappointing. Thanks anyway! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 ISTR that the Xenons can be adjusted with a lever. "Ordinary" halogens need the black tape mask. NB you need to take spare bulbs if travelling in most EU countries - have you seen the price of them? Facelifted models have different bulbs for dip and main beam, just spent a small fortune and I've still to buy the black tape! At least I've still got another couple of months to save up..... Quote
Guest nelse Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 You may also need to carry a warning triangle and a first aid kit in some European countries, you're right about spare bulbs, I just bought a spare bulb kit when i last went to France, usually cheaper than buying them seperately and they come in a case. Another?Maybe! Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 My 51 reg (manuf in May 2000!) Ghia comes with a warning triangle. Should be in storage area on rt hand side of 'boot', where jack lives. Have a look! Quote
julesanth Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Just to add to what is required for driving abroad. In Spain for certain (and I stand to be corrected on this, France as well), you need a bright reflective jacket, you know the sort of thing that breakdown services and policeman wear at night. Quote
Richmond Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Not in France; all you need are the headlamp convertors (according to the RAC). Quote
GalMan Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Richmond and the RAC are correct, all other items are recommended which really means if you are a foreigner in France it would be wise to carry them. I'm going there soon and as well have having the headlamps changed I have a set of bulbs, GB plates (or sticker), red triangle, first aid kit and fire extinguisher. Don't forget you also need to carry your driving license, cert of insurance and log book. Regarding the headlamps, I recently had to replace a lamp unit on the wife's Fiesta it was sooo expensive I have invested in a set of plastic lamp protectors for both the Fiesta and Galaxy, these protectors have the areas that need to be blacked out marked on them and actually provide stickers to use, very useful. One last point, I'm planning on high mileage when in France and as I have a Tdi I've got some oil with me just in case. Happy hols to all, Galman. Quote
