Davieg Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Hi Everyone. Thanks for letting join your forum. We've just purchased a Mk2 2002 with the PD 1.9td engine. The problem is it's quite flat on acceleration, although it go's well enough when you get up speed. I'm replacing the cam belt at the moment so I took the plastic inlet pipe off of the turbo as it was easy to get to. I gave the turbo spindle a few turns with my fingers, it didn't seem to spin quite as freely as I thought it should, then again I'm not sure how it should feel. The turbo made no noise when the engine was running, not like a Mk1 we used to have.I would be very grateful for any helpful comments. davieg Quote
xavier Posted February 9, 2017 Report Posted February 9, 2017 See if you can operate the arm on the VNT mechanism using a spanner, you may find it's siezed open, so you have no boost at low speeds, but once the revs pick up she's fine. If the arm moves freely then check the vaccum hose to the actuator hasn't split. Quote
Davieg Posted February 12, 2017 Author Report Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks for your reply Xavier. I take it you mean to check the waste gate which I had done. The problem has now alterered a little. Every now and again the car will accelerate normally and very well. Then it reverts back to a flat acceleration. If it is a VNT problem I take it that the turbo will need replacing. Quote
