Tailgate Electrical Fault

My 2007 Zetec 2.0 TDCi has developed a fault with the electrics in the tailgate. We first noticed that the rear wiper had stopped working but then realised that the high level stop light and also rear window demister have also stopped working.

I have checked all fuses under the bonnet and I can hear the rear wiper relays clicking when the wiper should be moving. Also we are getting the stop light fault on the dash too.

 

I suspect this may be an earth fault on the tailgate wiring but I've no idea where to start looking for the problem.

Does anyone have a clue where to start?

Hello and welcome.

If all electrical faults happened at the same time on the tailgate, I would be tracing the loom back and checking the main rear loom connector (and earth as you suggested).

A quick Google/images of "Galaxy Mk3 Rear Loom" brings up loads of pics of the loom, but not exactly how to trace it through the car.

Let us know how you get on, because others can learn from your endeavours and will appreciate it.

does the rear door latch work ok?

does the rear boot door open from the remote ok?

 

if no on the 1st and yes on the 2nd then i would think its defo the wires.

if there anything like they were on my smax the latch wires ran through the gator on the left(hatch open looking in)

i assume all other wires are housed in the right gator.
