rubberduckyiow Posted December 26, 2016 Report Posted December 26, 2016 Just jumped in my MKII Galaxy and found none of the drivers door electrics (windows/mirrors/LED) are working...when I locked up last I also had to do it with the key in the door, as when I clicked the remote it locked and then unlocked and triggered the alarm when I opened the door. Should I be looking at fuses or wiring in the door loom? TIA Quote
gregers Posted December 26, 2016 Report Posted December 26, 2016 i would think its the wires in the door gaitor as i would think if it was any fuses then it would effect every door and window. Quote
rubberduckyiow Posted December 26, 2016 Author Report Posted December 26, 2016 Great, thanks, gives me somewhere to start my explorations tomorrow! Quote
BrianH Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 it might be one of the front door lock motors if its not the wiring - sitting inside the car try operating it from the handle to the locked position and see what happens (try both front doors) If it works as expected on one side but not the other the side manually operated is likley to have a duff lock motor (drivers side in your case). Though wiring may be able to cause the same symptoms as well. I've generally found you will get problems if operating the locks manually (with the key) if you have an aftermarket remote fitted, factory should be ok. Quote
chrisarnold738 Posted January 29, 2018 Report Posted January 29, 2018 I have had the door gaitor unplugged in mine and have about 6 snapped wires the rubber boot is torn all the way along too - whats the best way to reconnect the wires and can I buy a replacement boot anywhere ? Quote
AndyPoole1 Posted January 29, 2018 Report Posted January 29, 2018 Best way is to Solder + HeatshrinkAfter my first repair i had another failure about 3 months laterSo 2nd time around due to the brittleness of the original loom i removed some of the original loom and let in a new length of a more flexible cable and soldered in place at either end - this has been fine Quote

As far as the boot goes, the original part would only be available with the loom as you can't remove it without cutting the wires. Your best bet would be to either goto a scrapyard to find one, or find one someone is breaking up to remove it from. You'd have to cut and rejoin all the wires though to get it on. Quote
