Hello again gent's. Could anyone recommend an injector cleaner?, maybe there is an additive I can stick straight in the fuel filter? Basically, I have quite bad fuel economy (compared to my mk1). I get 560 miles a tank, that is with putting 76 litres in there (33.5 mpg). I can't see any obvious leaks. No pools on floor. Runs fine when heated up. I'm thinking injectors because, when I start up in the morning, its a bit lumpy, almost like if it were a petrol engine you would say its 'missing'. There is also a bit of smoke for a minute or two on start up, which makes me think the injectors have been dripping a bit through the night...as always, any info appreciated. Thanks.

I've seen the results of using the ones your supposed to put in the tank directly in the filler (the wynns one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wynns-51668-Injector-Cleaner-Diesel/dp/B005D0ZANO ) and thats cleared more than you'd expect it to, same sort of symptoms as you describe and excessive smoking.

Obviously its your decision to not follow the instructions but its been ok where i've seen it done. In his case a tank of v-power diesel was also put into it at the same time as an attempt to clean it up for mot - with that and a service it went from being off the scale on the emissions tester to a pass, did take a bit of running it and driving it to clear up though. New filter at the same time not a bad idea if its not been changed.
