TracyMS Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Hi there wondered if anyone would be able to help, have a 2.3 petrol 2003 Galaxy which was working fine, never a problem on starting. Sunday dropped the key and it came apart, put it back together, went to start the car and nothing, lights on dash were coming on but the engine nothing!! Called out our local mechanic, he could not get it started, he did try to jump the starter motor but it kept cutting out immediately.. Realised yesterday my chip was missing from the key, managed to locate it in the street but still car wont start, called out a locksmith, who programmed a new chip in the key as the other chip was damaged, but still the car will not start.. He has checked all the PATS and they are all ok, the ECU is ok and the ignition coil is ok... Any ideas on what I can try next? Many thanks in advance Tracy Quote
BrianH Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Sounds like its not seeing the pats chip - Theres a relay that commonly fails, but this will usually crank and fail to start. The way its starting and dying suggests what would be expected with the immobiliser not working correctly to me - IE you have not had the chip programmed to the car correctly. If you look at the led on the drivers door does it flash rapidly when trying to start with the key? This is linked to the immobiliser, rapid flashing suggests its not seeing the key, When you say the ignition coil do you mean the coil pack (in the engine bay area) or the aerial coil thats round the keyhole on the steering column? It might be worth reading up on relay 30 issues, but it would be some strange coincidence knowing the key came apart before this happened if it was to have failed - Replacements can be brought from GSF using the part number on the relay once you get it out, or if you know someone with a soldering iron they should be able to resolder it for you. BrianH Posted October 27, 2016 Report Posted October 27, 2016 Further thought having checked your profile i see you have an auto - do the brake lights work correctly (get someone to check they come on when pressing the pedal). If not it may be a failed brake pedal switch, or could also be the inhibitor on the gearbox (stops you starting it when its not in park or neutral) Quote
TracyMS Posted October 27, 2016 Author Report Posted October 27, 2016 Hi Brian Thank you for replying, don't have the automatic anymore, this one is a manual...The key is definitely coded to the car, He coding another 2 chips just to see and all 3 coded to the car no problemHe said it could be a fuse/relay issue, did have an issue with relay 30 with the last Galaxy but that one would start and cut out, the current Galaxy will not start at all, it wont turn over, nothing..He did a full diagnostic check on the car and its not showing any errors at all.The coil is the aerial one, no issues therewondered if it could be an issue with Relay 167?? BrianH Posted October 28, 2016 Report Posted October 28, 2016 Seems strange that its happened with the key business at the same time. Relay 30 isn't particually hard to change, it might be worth having a look at it. If hes programmed the keys then the aerial shouldn't be a problem as it would need that to read them anyway. Quote
