s2will Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I (well, Halfords actually) just replaced the standard stereo in my Alhambra (2001) with an Alpine CD multiplayer unit. Now when I switch off the stereo the aircon light goes out and, if the car headlights are on the central console panel lights also go out. When the engine is switched off the clock and trip meter reset themselves to zero. When the stereo is switched on the lights etc come on as required. Halfords are clueless so far, anyone got any ideas before I demand my hard earned back? The stereo works great! Cheers Quote
GaryM Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Nice one Halfords B) How hard can it be? I have just fitted my own DVD system based upon an Alpine head unit and that had to have a dedicated power feed as well. Could not even begin to think how they have trashed everything espcially as Alpine use ISO fit connectors and one would assume Halfords would use thier own ISO to Ford/Seat/VW supplied adaptor as I did. I'm guessing they have popped a fuse some where because the HU is wired wrong and this is revese feeding the system some where. As Halfords have stuffed it they should fix it or at least restore it to how it was before they atempted the fit. If you feel you've had enough take it elsewhere and send Halfords the bill. However if you want a job doing.... I'd remove the HU and unplug it from the car and see if normal functionality is restored. Quote
italiastar Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Halfords are clueless I totally agree. On odd occassions let let someone with a brain out, but that is a very rare occurance - rarer than hens teeth. anyone got any ideas before I demand my hard earned back?I'd demand more than that - get them to pay for a SEAT dealer to fix it. s2will Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 Halfords had another go - no progress, then their installers came to the house and went away....... got the aircon etc lights working but failed on the clock and trip meter. Booked car in with Morrisons Seat in Stirling for 60K service inc timing belt and aircon recharge. Diagnosed and fixed the stereo problem in 10mins without charge. Problem was a live link across the stereo peculiar to Alhambra's that the Alpine wiring effectively broke. Everything works perfectly :D . Morissons have been a Seat dealer for only 3 months but were excellent. Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Sounds like one of the mechanics from my local Ford dealer has had a transfer to this branch of Halfords! Is typical of how they work, fix one job and create another so car has to be worked on unnecessarily on problems which were not there when it originally went in..... and it's never their fault, always a coincidence. I am convinced that my Galaxy, and the Maverick I had before, were used as training vehicles for their mechanics because they saw so few of these. But final bill never reflected this, of course.
