mrben Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 Hello all. Just checked pulley, and is spinning fine the other way. Funnily enough when i relaxed the spanner so the tension went back on the belt and started it, schreach doesn't seem so bad. It mainly happens when puttting your foot down in higher gear with all electrics on. Belt looks in vgc. I soppose its a case of trying a new belt, before splashing out on a tensioner. I cant think what else it could be? Quote
BrianH Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 It might be worth trying to exercise the tensioner a bit (remove the belt from it and move it back and forth as far as it goes), If the tensioner appears to hold it may be that its got stuck previously and allowed the belt to slip - if this happens the belt can get a bit glazed in places so will then slip easier than it should as well. seatkid Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 Check the belt isnt contaminated, run your finger along the ribbed side and check for oily gunk,(with the engine off of course!) Quote
mrben Posted October 15, 2016 Author Report Posted October 15, 2016 Many thanks chaps, will do these things and report back. Quote
tim-spam Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 It could be the alternator pulley - this has a clutch on it that can fail. Easy to change with the right tool. Quote
mrben Posted October 28, 2016 Author Report Posted October 28, 2016 Hi tim. I changed the tensioner and belt, and problem solved. Thanks. I did check the pulley, and it is ok. Quote
